About Us

Welcome!

I’m happy that you’re here and want to know more about Meredith Dachshunds. My name is Amber McDaniel and I’ve raised dogs (Pembrokes from 2002-2022) for over twenty years, and Australian Shepherds for about five years. I used to have my Corgis shown in AKC Conformation and I learned to handle Aussies myself in smaller venues.

Meredith Dachshunds was born in 2025 when we downsized from our horse ranch to a little more than 5 acres of woods. We decided to “revamp” our breed of dog and had always been intrigued by the Dachshund. After months of research and learning more about their health, care and pro vs con of the breed we decided to bring home a little chocolate and tan female named Mabel. The long haired variety appealed to us as we have always had nice coats on our dogs. We were also attracted to the “Russian look”. Breeding to the standard is something we take seriously so no crossing of patterns or coats or breeding any colors outside of the standard will be taking place at Meredith dachshunds.
We will also not purposely raise dilutes.

Age appropriate health screenings are done on every Dachshund in my program.  I use Embark and UC Davis for DNA testing and the Orthopedic Foundation For Animals for evaluating eyes and patellas. Ophthalmology appointments are done to CAER certify as well and our local vet does our basic cardiac exam. After all of these results have been documented by the OFA, they issue a CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) number that identifies the individual has met the requirements from their breed club for health testing.

Temperament is my number one priority, only those individuals with the best attitudes and personality traits are allowed to be breeding dogs.  To help our puppies have the best start in life, I’ve chosen certain lessons from Puppy Culture (animal behavior research) to use as a guide to help with desensitization and socialization beginning at the very young puppy stages. Raising Dachshund puppies successfully takes considerable time and attention and it’s a family affair here. I highly recommend doing your research on this breed and if you feel they are the one for you, do your homework on selecting a responsible breeder, and have the necessary tools and time to finish raising a well adjusted family member. My Dachshunds are acclimated to a busy home, other pets plus all the sights and sounds of a small ranchette, so they really do have a great start!

All Meredith Dachshunds are placed with Limited AKC registration In loving companion homes.
